Game overview

What Tyr actually is

Official Tyr still of a yellow armored hull on grass with unique silhouette

Tyr is a free-to-play 8v8 tank shooter from Stoke Games. Two teams of eight fight on a random map until one side is wiped, a base hits 100 capture, or the ten-minute clock forces overtime. You only get one life. Enemies stay hidden until you have line of sight and they sit inside your 400 m spotting circle — and your own camo circle decides how close they must be to see you back. Green aim-down-sights marks a pen; gray means the plate will bounce. Each chassis has a unique ability paid with Energy (default start 33, cap 100). Learn the loop in the getting started guide, then read spotting, the tank roster, and the tier list before you dump SLVR into a random unlock.

First hour in Tyr

Install, learn spotting, pick a class, and fight a ten-minute 8v8 without throwing the match.

  1. 1

    Install from Steam

Tyr is free-to-play on Steam for Windows 10/11. Grab the client, then skim system requirements if you are on a GTX 1070-class card. Early Access opens September 2, 2026.

  2. 2

    Learn spotting before you shoot

Every tank spots at 400 m, but camo shrinks the circle others need to see you. Bushes add 50% camo until you fire an unsilenced shell. Read spotting and vision and controls before your first ranked queue.

  3. 3

Pick a class, not a random hull

Lights scout, mediums flex, heavies hold space. Open the tank roster and the tier list, then spend SLVR on shells and components instead of unlocking every chassis on day one.

  4. 4

    Fight the actual win conditions

Matches last up to ten minutes. You win by wiping the enemy, capturing their base, or winning overtime on capture percent, tanks left, then remaining HP. Details live in how to play and maps.

  5. 5

Track patches, clans, and the Founder's Pack

Balance will move during Early Access. Bookmark updates and patch notes. Hold T for the ping wheel. Join a clan for scans, not for extra squad slots.
