Seven flex chassis — hull-down clips, ramps, bushes, and the noisy snipers in between.

Medium Tank Roster Guide

Mediums are the default “I want to play Tyr” class. You get enough armor to survive a mistake, enough camo to not be Atlas, and abilities that rewrite space. The seven hulls are Arbalest, Ark, Deadeye, Ranger, Rook, Tempest, Valor. Camo stretches from Ark’s 26% down to Arbalest’s 9%. If you do not know which one you are, you will take light fights in a 9% hull and wonder why you are always spotted. Parent hub: tank roster. Rankings: medium tier list.

Tempest (21%) — the teacher

Hull-down turret, good speed, five-shell autoloader, ability Recall. You start with a gate at your base. Plant a second gate, drive onto it, teleport home, and the old gate dies. Enemies can capture your gate like a pickup. Tempest’s job is not frontline assault; it is drawing two enemies off the main line and disappearing before they collect the trade. Strengths: turret armor, clip, mobility. Weakness: if you dump the five-shell drum from a bush you lose camo and still have a medium’s HP. Energy Shells are halved on the clip. More Energy math: energy.

Ranger (23%) — ramps

Ranger deploys ramps. That sounds like a joke until a teammate flies a hover over a wall the art director did not intend, or until you use the ramp as an exit when three guns look at you. The official Ramp clip is on the Energy page; here the lesson is: spend the ramp on a teammate’s life, not only your own highlight. Ranger is a medium, not a scout — 23% camo is average.

Ark (26%) — bushes

Highest medium camo plus an ability that immediately un-spots you and plants a real bush. Close enemies can re-spot you. Ark is the Divide showcase hull for a reason: desert plus a portable bush is a vision cheat. Do not ability in the enemy’s face at 35 m proxy range and expect miracles. Spotting still applies.

Deadeye (25%) — two-shell clip

Deadeye loads two. Think of it as a slower, meaner peek than Tempest’s five. You have to make both shells green. Gray first shot is a disaster because you just bloomed camo for a bounce. Armor.

Rook (21%) and Valor (24%)

Generalists in the Tempest camo band without the same headline ability. Play them as lane holders: hull-down, green shots only, Energy zone discipline. They are the hulls you recommend to a friend who is not ready for Recall micro or ramp geometry.

Arbalest (9%) — the loud medium

Nine percent camo is heavy-adjacent. Arbalest plays like a sniper who forgot to bring Fuse’s stealth. If you crest on Scorch, you are lit. Lean into range, velocity, and allied spots instead of pretending you are Ark. Skins like Arbalest Zero showed up in the July cosmetics patch; they do not change camo.

How to pick among seven

  • Want a complete kit with a get-out-of-jail button? Tempest.
  • Want to enable a hover teammate? Ranger.
  • Want to be a bush? Ark.
  • Want two hard pens per peek? Deadeye.
  • Want simple? Rook or Valor.
  • Want to snipe and accept being seen? Arbalest.

Then spend SLVR on shells and components, not on owning all seven. Build planner. Compare with lights if you miss camo, or heavies if you miss bounce Energy.

Maps: Tempest loves Ravine’s dune lip. Ark loves Divide. Arbalest loves Scorch if a light is already spotting. Maps. Match rules stay on how to play. Mediums win Early Access weekends when they stop taking heavy frontal trades and start taking the hill their lights already lit.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for new Tyr pilots and returning playtesters.

Which medium is best for beginners?

Rook or Valor if you want simple lanes. Tempest if you will actually use Recall instead of dying with the gate unused.

How does Tempest Recall work?

You always have a home gate. Plant a second, drive it, teleport back. Enemies can capture your gate.

Is Arbalest a light?

No. It is a 9% camo medium. It spots like a noisy sniper, not like Fuse.

Where are medium rankings?

On the medium tier list. This page is roles and abilities.
