Fortis Tank Guide

Fortis is the bounce wall heavy. At 7% camo it is visible the moment you are in line of sight, but the front armor is angled in a way that converts enemy shots into Energy — and then there are the mines. Fortis drops mines behind itself when it moves, which means any light that tries to follow you through a corridor or around a corner is walking into a trap. Parent roster: heavy tanks hub. Rankings: heavy tier list.

The mine ability

Fortis drops mines behind itself as it moves. These mines are proximity-triggered — they detonate when an enemy drives over them. The primary targets are lights that tried to follow you past a corner or through a chokepoint. A Seeker or Ikarus that thought they could chase a Fortis into a corridor is going to take engine damage and potentially lose their tread.

The key limitation: mines do nothing to Alecto. Alecto drives over them and takes no damage. This matters in late-game scenarios where an Alecto is the last threat and the Fortis mines are irrelevant. Phantom takes damage and loses the engine module — a significant penalty for a light that relies on mobility.

Hull-down mid-range play

Fortis fights best hull-down at mid range. The front armor is designed to bounce shots from the front, and at mid range the enemy is close enough for Fortis to return fire but far enough that the angled plate is effective. At close range, enemies can get around the angle. At long range, the enemy is far enough to pick their shot.

The hull-down position is the key to playing Fortis well. Find a ridge, a lip, or a building corner that lets you present the front armor while shooting over it. Stay in that position and let the enemy come to you.

Energy from bounces

Fortis is built around converting bounces into Energy. Nodes that magnify Energy from taken and bounced damage are the reason Fortis abilities come back in long fights. If your team keeps shooting the Fortis front, they are loading the bar. Tell them to wait for a tread shot from a light before committing.

This is a team-play note: a Fortis that is being shot by the whole enemy team is generating a lot of Energy. If that Energy is being converted into ability uptime, the Fortis is a sustain machine. If the team is just burning shots off the front without coordinating, it is a waste.

Camo and survivability

At 7% camo, Fortis is in the loud heavy band. You are always visible inside 400 meters. The armor is real — it bounces shots — but only if the angle is correct. A Fortis sitting flat is a green rectangle that any medium can punch through.

Common mistakes

Sitting flat instead of hull-down. Not using the mine positions to control chokepoints. Expecting mines to stop an Alecto (they do not). Not converting bounces into Energy through nodes.

Builds and SLVR priority

Buy the mine count and detonation damage upgrades first — the mine value scales with how many you drop and how hard they hit. Bounce Energy components are also worth prioritizing since the Fortis kit is built around converting shots into resources. Energy shells are the default for the reload assist bonus. See builds for the full loadout. Compare with Atlas if you want sonar instead of mines, or with Tricera if you want smokescreen instead of mines.

Maps: Fortis is best on Scorch where the lanes let you hold hull-down positions, and on Ravine where the corridor approaches make the mines effective. Divide is challenging because the open terrain does not support hull-down play. Maps.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for new Tyr pilots and returning playtesters.

What does Fortis's mine ability do?

Drops mines behind itself as it moves. They detonate when an enemy drives over them, damaging engine and potentially taking out the tread.

Who is immune to Fortis mines?

Alecto drives over them with no damage. Phantom takes damage and loses the engine module.

How does Fortis play best?

Hull-down at mid range, with the front armor angled to bounce shots. Let the enemy come to you rather than pushing.

Why does Fortis generate so much Energy?

Nodes that convert bounces into Energy. If the team keeps shooting the Fortis front, they are loading the ability bar.

What is Fortis's camo rating?

7% — in the loud heavy band. You are always visible. Survivability comes from the angle, not from hiding.
