Tyr Kestrel
Three-round clip, a drone that marks the whole enemy team, and the speed to be everywhere before the fight settles.
Kestrel is the light that plays fast. Where Fuse hides and Ikarus flies, Kestrel rotates — a 39% camo scout with a three-round clip and a drone ability that lights up everyone in a radius around it. The clip damage is real at approximately 450 per magazine, but the drone is the reason you pick this hull. Speed is the real stat. Parent roster: light tanks hub. Rankings: light tier list. Energy: energy.
The three-round clip
Kestrel loads three shells and fires them in quick succession. This is not as much burst as Ikarus’s four, but three is enough to punish a light that wandered too far from support or to put meaningful damage into a medium’s side. The camo bloom is also smaller than Ikarus’s — three shots instead of four means a smaller signature after the dump.
Energy shells are halved on clip tanks. On Kestrel specifically, the clip is short enough that you are not farming Energy through it the way you might on a longer magazine. Buy Energy shells only if you need the reload assist bonus and have the SLVR.
The scout drone
The drone is Kestrel’s signature tool. When activated, it flies out and hovers over an area, lighting up every enemy tank within its radius. Both teams can see tanks lit by the drone — it is not a secret like a Fuse mine. The value is informational: you call out the drone’s position, your team knows where the enemy cluster is, and you can push or rotate accordingly.
The drone lasts for a set duration. It does not follow you — you plant it where you think the fight will be, then you are free to reposition. Use it to scout chokepoints before committing, to check if a cap is defended, or to light up the enemy team during a mid-fight rotation.
Speed as the real stat
Kestrel is fast. Not as fast as Seeker at 110 km/h, but fast enough to rotate before the enemy expects you. The speed means you can be in multiple places across the map in a single respawn timer — you are not locked into one lane. Use that to scout aggressively, to check multiple caps, and to arrive at the fight from angles the enemy did not anticipate.
How to play Kestrel
The job is vision, not damage. You are not the one who kills the heavy — you are the one who tells your heavy where to shoot. Deploy the drone, call out positions, rotate to the next spot, and fire your clip only when you have a clean shot on a distracted target.
Silenced shells keep the bush bonus on approach. You are not as invisible as Fuse, but you are still a light, and the 50% bush camo bonus means you can set up a drone drop from a position the enemy did not know was occupied.
Common mistakes
Using the drone as an attack tool instead of a scouting tool. It does not deal damage — it only reveals. Shooting the clip at a full-HP heavy instead of at a distracted light or medium. Staying in one position too long instead of rotating. Forgetting that speed is the hull’s advantage and playing it like a static bush-hugger.
Builds and SLVR priority
Buy the drone duration and radius upgrades first — the informational value scales directly with how long and how large the reveal is. Drone cooldown reduction is also worth prioritizing. Silenced shells are the base round. See builds for the full loadout. Compare with Ikarus if you want four shells instead of three and flight instead of a drone, or with Fuse if you want mines instead of a drone.
Maps: Kestrel is best on large maps with multiple lanes like Divide and Fields, where the speed to rotate and the drone to check sightlines both matter. Ravine works if you control the drone timing for mid-fights. Scorch is workable if you use the drone to check ridges before your heavies push. Maps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for new Tyr pilots and returning playtesters.
What does Kestrel's drone ability do?
It flies out and hovers over an area, lighting up every enemy tank within its radius for both teams to see. It is informational, not damaging.
How much damage does Kestrel's clip do?
Approximately 450 damage per three-shell magazine. Not enough to delete a heavy, but enough to punish lights and damage mediums.
Is Kestrel better than Ikarus?
Different roles. Kestrel is a scout that trades burst damage for drone vision and faster rotation. Ikarus is a burst hull with flight. Pick based on what your team needs.
Why does speed matter on Kestrel?
Kestrel can rotate across multiple lanes in a single respawn, scout aggressively, and arrive at fights from unexpected angles. Speed is the real stat, not the clip.
Should Kestrel use Energy shells?
Energy shells are halved on clip tanks. Only buy them if you need the reload assist bonus and have SLVR to spare. Standard shells are usually the better default.
